Anthropology is the study of humans in all of our complexity, both past and present. It is a discipline concerned with studying the cultural, social, historical, and anatomical aspects of our collective human experience. Students of anthropology at Florida Gulf Coast University learn the basic concerns and methods of the four sub-fields of the discipline: archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistics. The major is for anyone interested in working with people in all of their cultural diversity, solving social problems, teaching social sciences, and learning human biology from an evolutionary point of view. Our minor pairs well with many other majors.

Our Anthropology Program faculty are teaching-oriented practitioners who partner with students for experiential learning and to conduct independent research leading to skills and abilities necessary for life and work in an increasingly global and dynamic world. Anthropology graduates find employment in public archaeology, education, cultural resource management, museums, nonprofit institutions, and in corporations.
